Chaired Professorship in Leadership

Department of Management and Organization

The Department of Management and Organization (DMO) at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) is seeking candidates for a chaired professorship in Leadership. The professorship was created in celebration of H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 50 years on the throne and honours his longstanding commitment to youth leadership. (Please see the press release for more information). The position comes with reduced teaching commitments and a generous research budget.

Your profile

We are looking for candidates with a Ph.D. in Leadership, Organizational Behavior, Organization Theory, Business Administration, Management, or a closely related discipline such as psychology and an interest in conducting research with practical implications for organizations. The Chair’s research focus is broadly defined as leadership and the impact of leadership as transformative for organizations, people and societies. For many of the generation entering the workforce, meaningful work, ethics, and engagement to make a difference are primordial. It is crucial to examine how the leaders of the future can foster sustainable commitments and processes that harness the engagement, competence, empathy, courage, compassion and potential of employees to effectively address our complex societal issues. A successful candidate will also develop synergies around topics commonly researched at DMO such as, diversity, teams, social networks, affect and emotions, identity, well-being, ethics, and more.

As a candidate, you thrive in the DMO inclusive research environment that is multidisciplinary and multi-paradigmatic and where research aims at making contributions to both academic knowledge and a better society. You are open, considerate, and sympathetic to different research paradigms such as realist, interpretivist, and critical studies. You have strong qualities in both research and teaching.

Your qualifications

In research, successful applicants will exhibit the repeated ability to publish in top-journals such as those classified as AJG 4/4* and those on the FT50 list. They will also have a strong position in the international research community as manifest in e.g., editorial roles or through representation in scholarly associations. Further, they will have a track record of attracting research funding and engaging with society, for example, with research collaborations.

In teaching, successful candidates have experience from designing and delivering courses, as well as from mentoring students and PhD students.  The successful candidate will be part of the core faculty in management and organization. Teaching (in English) falls within the areas of Leadership, OB and organization theory on all educational levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD and Executive Education).
