Head of SSE Business Lab

SSE Business Lab

About SSE Business Lab

SSE Business Lab is the venture incubation arm of Stockholm School of Economics. Our vision is to strengthen Sweden’s competitiveness by providing a platform for growth to exceptional entrepreneurs, including the likes of Klarna, Budbee and VOI. The SSE Business Lab provides a stimulating and creative office environment at the innovation hub A house, as well as access to coaches with extensive executive and/or entrepreneurial backgrounds, and to a large network of partners, activities and events.

We are now looking for someone who will take the challenge to lead SSE Business Lab through its next stage of development. You need to be passionate about helping start-ups grow, and about supporting innovation and facilitating knowledge sharing amongst ambitious and energetic start-up teams. You will have a key role in contributing to our mission of strengthening the competitiveness of Sweden by giving exceptional people a platform to grow their companies.

Main responsibilities

Your main responsibility is to create the best conditions for the incubator firms in close collaboration with partners, alumni, the Advisory Board and other stakeholders. You will continue to contribute to strengthen the SSE Business Lab brand and increase the quality and as well as the number of firms within the budget conditions.

You will lead a small team consisting of one Partnership Manager and one Operations Manager and work closely with the SSE Business Lab Advisory Board. You formally report to the SSE Business Lab Board of Directors. You work mostly independently, but also collaborate with SSE, especially the House of Innovation, a newly founded research, teaching and outreach unit focusing on entrepreneurship, innovation and digital technologies.

Formally, you are the CEO (verkställande direktör) of the SSE Business Lab, but as part of a small team you are expected to work on both an operational and a strategic level.

Who you are

You are probably in the early stage of your career and see this as an opportunity to leverage your prior academic and professional experience, as well as develop new skills and abilities, in a stimulating setting. This is required for the position:

  • Passion for entrepreneurship, and interest and ability to work in an entrepreneurial setting
  • Excellent communication skills, including being a good listener
  • Strong management skills, including the ability to combine operative tasks with strategic overview and direction, and to manage many simultaneous tasks
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in independently attracting/attaining external funding
  • Ability to build and maintain strategic relationships
  • Trustworthiness and sense of responsibility
  • Strong familiarity with the Stockholm entrepreneurial eco-system
  • Fluency in English and Swedish
  • A university degree in a related field

It is a merit if you have experience of start-ups, incubator environments, and/or hands-on leadership. Familiarity with the business school environment, and insight into academic research, are also beneficial.
