TENURE TRACK POSITION IN RETAIL MANAGEMENT

Job description
Center for Retailing at Stockholm School of Economics invites applications at the assistant professor level for a tenure track position in business administration, with a focus on retailing. Research topics may relate to retail analytics, customer management, customer loyalty, multi-channel issues, category management, and/or buying behavior. Applicants are expected to engage in both research and teaching in this area. Strong competence in teaching and using advanced quantitative research methods is desirable. An ability to teach several different topics in retailing is also valuable.

The tenure track position is located at the Center for Retailing/The Department of Marketing and Strategy and the candidate will be part of the core faculty in the Retail Management Program run at the Center for Retailing. As such s/he is expected to take an active role in tutoring students and integrating companies in teaching. Research and teaching will be equally important in the position and the candidate will be offered continuous support and training in pedagogy. The candidate is also expected to engage in industry collaborations in both teaching and research, tapping into the wide network of partner organizations of the Center for Retailing and the Stockholm School of Economics

The tenure track period is 6 years conditional on successful mid-term review after 3 years. The tenure evaluation takes place after maximum 6 years, and successful evaluation leads to conversion of the tenure-track position to a tenured associate professor position.

Qualifications
Qualified candidates should hold a doctoral degree or its equivalent, or must have completed said requirement before taking up the position. Candidates are expected to be strong in terms of both research and teaching.

In research, the successful candidate should exhibit a strong research track record, as evidenced by publications in well-reputed scientific journals, a presence in the international research community, and a strong research and publication pipeline. Research interest in retail management is required and documented experience from research in retail contexts is considered a merit.

In teaching, candidates should be able to document high-quality teaching performance, preferably on different levels, including undergraduate, graduate and executive levels. Experience of coaching student projects and of collaborating with industry in teaching is also considered a merit.

A tentative starting date for the successful applicant is April 2020, but the School is open to discussing other dates as well. Salaries are set on an individual basis.

About the Department of Marketing and Strategy The Department of Marketing and Strategy is one of 6 Departments of the Stockholm School of Economics. The faculty consists of 9 full professors, 6 associate professors, and 4 assistant professors/lecturers. The department currently has a cohort of 29 PhD students enrolled in the PhD program in Business Administration. The department also hosts about 35 research fellows and post docs (fully financed by external research grants). The department faculty and research fellows contribute to teaching in the bachelor, master, PhD, EMBA and executive education programs at SSE.
